Remember in college when your friend started a band? You went to their first show. They weren’t remarkable, but everyone had a blast.

  • Then you started getting e-mails about each show.
    • Soon, you were getting more emails about how each show went.
      • Then came the third batch about their rankings on MySpace.
            • Then you switched your e-mail provider.

Don’t tweet, post a blog, or send an e-mail unless your reader is about to get something valuable and/or remarkable. Otherwise, you’ll be killing two sales with one stone:

  1. Your reader “buying you” and the value you offer.
  2. Your reader “selling you” to their friends.
