Video Tutorial: Overview Of The Latest Version Of TweetDeck

tweetdeck logo Video Tutorial: Overview Of The Latest Version Of TweetDeckThis is a follow up to my previous post on how to use TweetDeck. If you’re very new to Twitter, please watch this first video tutorial on TweetDeck before reading this post.

The latest version of TweetDeck (.021b) now has us sitting in coach. It’s lightning fast and managing several Twitter conversations is much easier. If you haven’t donated at least $10 to Iain, please do – TweetDeck will save at least $1,000 worth or your time.

So… on to the video:

(A list of the major TweetDeck enhancements are below the embedded video)

  1. Much quicker. Messages no longer cause your laptop to start wheezing.
  2. Direct messages you’ve sent are now in included in the DM column. Now you can quickly find a conversation thread that you may have lost.
  3. Narrow columns within settings. This allows you to save more groups with out having to horizontally navigate back and forth.
  4. Confirmation message pops up when closing a column. Yay!
  5. TweetShrink now shortens long messages. Perfect for those times when you want to tweet just like your 17 year-old daughter.
  6. URL shortening services can be selected and saved.

I only found one other question and response in regards to this and it says I need to do this http://www.ossramblings.com/tweetdeck_in_64_bit... but I have no clue what all that is about so I am guessing I am just going to have to find something else. I LOVE tweetdeck because of the columns and being able to re-organize things.

    Thanks!

  • @Becky - What was the response from the Tweetdeck forum? My guess is that it's an XP issue. I wish I could be more helpful.

I have a problem I havent' been able to resolve. I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled several times and once it installs all I have is a tweetdeck box with icons along the top and a black box. I use tweetdeck on out laptop, which has vista, but on this desktop (has XP) I can't get it to install correctly. Can someone help me out here. Please? Oh and I am not an uber computer saavy techie type so if it will be to involved or complicated I will just have to find something else.

    Thanks much,
    ~Becky

  • @jlori - I think the spelling fuction is a 3rd party tool. Not sure though.
  • Even when I choose Spanish as main language, the spelling correction seems to operate just in English.
  • @Jeremy - Thanks for pointing this out to the viewers. Take care!
  • Good job as usual.

If you right-click a misspelled word in your tweetdeck post box, it will show suggestions.
  • John,

    Great video, my friend!

I guess I hadn't spent enough time playing with the settings 'cuz you showed me some stuff that I didn't know was there...very cool.

Just don't be throwing that, "He should be charging" thing around too much...he might actually do it. :)

    Take care,

    Jim

Great video! I personally like the tweet shrink service - I agree with you that it would be annoying if people used it too much... but I think it's only meant for when you go over 140.
  • Aloha John!
Great videos, I learned a number of things I never would have figured out. Thanks for all you do.
I did see one thing ...you mentioned the spell check did not give the correct spelling choices. I find that it does...maybe it works on my computer because the spelling section of my brain still needs it :)
I am pretty new to twitter and social media so I'm glad to have found you.
    Aloha~ Gina
