Following is a guest post from my friend James Chartrand of Men With Pens, an awesome group of web-designers and copywriters.
_______________
If you’re going to be on the web, you might as well rock your socks off – and the socks of readers, too. You’re there to get people to listen and pay attention, right? Go ahead. Get up on that stage and strut your stuff.

Alright, maybe you don’t want to strut. Some people prefer to quietly take the microphone and maybe offer a small but thoughtful speech. Others do stand-up comedy for the crowd. Some like to teach. Some sing, some do a little dance…
It’s all good. We all have our own ways of performing.
Take us, for example. At Men with Pens, we aim for a variety show. We talk about business, writing, design, marketing, and sometimes we just rant or goof off. When we’re more serious, we discuss what makes a freelance business better, and help spread the word on smart service tips or improvements people can use.
Our secret weapon? We’re genuine.
We aren’t afraid to talk about mistakes we’ve made or fears we might have had. We love to work in stories and analogies, like we’re painting a picture for people. They get to know our experiences and more about us. We use that, in turn, to show readers what they can do differently or better.
See, that’s what people really like. That’s what rocks a web – learning and sharing experiences to make each other’s life better. It’s an interconnecting network of people helping people.
