How to automatically feed your blog posts into your Facebook Page – a video tutorial

I recently spoke with a non-profit client who I’m working with on social web strategies. At the end of our call, she complained “We’ve been so busy recently. I can barely remember to paste our blog posts onto our Facebook Page.”

When I told her that she could automate the feed, she almost jumped through the phone with joy. I promised her that I’d make this video.

If you don’t have a Facebook Page yet, go watch “How to create a Facebook Page in less than four minutes”. I’ll wait right here.

This tutorial on how to import your blog posts into your Facebook Page covers the following steps:

  1. Adding the notes application to your Facebook Page
  2. Adding your blog’s RSS feed to the application
  3. Confirming and importing your blog posts

Update: Stacy Brice asked about importing multiple URLs into a Facebook Page. I recommended using Yahoo Pipes (you can also use Google Reader as explained in this post by Daniel McLaren called “Import Multiple RSS Feeds into Facebook Notes”).

Did I miss anything?

How to automatically feed your blog posts into your Facebook Page a video tutorial

  • This did not work for us. We have feedblitz instead of feedburn on our site. Does that have anything to do with it?
  • No. It should work with either.
  • Is there a way to import Google Reader items into a Facebook Page when added to GR?
  • You could take the RSS feed of your shared items and pull that into your
Facebook Page with the Notes application.
  • Folks may also want to check out the NetworkedBlogs application within Facebook to import a blog. I'm finding it provides some pretty great blog traffic, and it now allows you to use the application with Pages as well as your Profile.

  • Good call, Jennifer!
  • Any hope for those of us non-profits who originally created their Facebook presence as a "group" not a "page"??? We have so many people on the group it seems too hard to switch over...
  • You can't convert a Group to a Page so that best thing to do is to notify the Group. Give them a good reason to become a fan. Those who don't become a fan, weren't real fans to begin with. This way you'll be able to measure your org's "stickiness".
  • I don't trust Facebook to respect my intellectual property rights (even CC share-attrib), so I won't do this.
  • It would be hard for Facebook to prove that they own the original content (when all they're getting is a feed on their site), wouldn't it?
  • For anyone who wants to use Pipes and hasn't, know that it's really simple. John told me about it this morning, I went and figured it out, and now am importing the posts from two blogs.

When you go to Yahoo Pipes, there's a very short tutorial video that you'll want to watch, and then you'll be all set to create a Pipe.

Use the URL for the pipe where John tells you to enter the feed info in FB, and FB will do the rest.

If you want to see how that works on my FB page, feel free to friend me (I won't bite--promise!) http://www.facebook.com/stacybrice

And thanks again, John--you're an absolute genius and I'm grateful to know you! :)
  • Stacy - thanks!
