Your homework assignment

chaulkboard

With school having started, I thought it might be appropriate to give you a homework assignment. It’s an assignment that you’ll definitely learn something from – if you do it correctly.

Ready?

Ok, the purpose of assignment is to introduce you to three excellent, but very different blogs, and guide you along the process of engaging with these folks.

Read

Read a post from one of the following blogs: Creating the Future, Remarkablogger and Conversation Agent. I won’t say much about these blogs, you can discover them for yourself. Get yourself a pen and paper and, while searching around these blogs of choice, jot down a few titles that look interesting. After a short while, one blog post will stand out – it will speak to you.

Shut down your email and focus for 5 minutes on just reading the post. Read it out loud if it helps you connect better.

Write

Write a comment after the post that adds to whatever conversation is going on. Don’t think you have to say something smart or impressive – just be you and say what’s honest and in your heart. You may even disagree with the post. That’s good!

Retweet

Retweet the post (don’t forget the link!) thanking the author for the opportunity.

Direct message

Direct message a friend or two who would find this blog post useful. Ask them to do the homework too!

Turn in your homework

Most of you might not take the time to do this (we’re all too busy, right?), but for those who did, please share below what blog you visited and what you learned, if anything.

What did you learn?

  • Great assignment, John! I realize that I'm several weeks late - I hope that won't affect my grade. ;)

First, I enjoyed visiting each of the blogs (although I was familiar with one of them already). It's funny, I thought I knew which would engage me (based on my interests) and I was wrong.

Please understand, all were interesting and all had great info/insights to share (and frankly I could have commented on any of their posts), it just happened that a recent post at Conversation Age was about air travel and ways to improve it. I was completely drawn in - who hasn't sat for hours in an airport thinking, "There's got to be a better way" after the seventh delay?

So that's the one I read and reflected on - added my two cents in the comments and even tried to keep it short (HA!). And yes, I tweeted about it. Thanks for making me slow down and explore. Cheers!
  • Mickey - that's great! A+!
  • Hiya John. Well, I definitely thought this was an interesting home assignment (a good one). Truth is, I used to read in the very focused manner that you suggest quite regularly. Now, well, I skim through most posts and comment less frequently as a result. I think it's something that I should get back to!
