Headway Themes launches true visual editing for WordPress blogs (Video)

You all know that I’m a huge fan of Headway for a number of reasons (I’m also an affiliate :-) ). Headway offers a lot of design flexibility without the need for CSS – something I wasn’t getting with the Thesis Theme.

True visual editing with Headway 1.5

The first release of Headway had a basic form of visual editing, meaning you could build page templates simply by moving content sections around, and you could drag and drop navigation bar links and subpages.

But you still had to actually go to your blog’s home page to see what your site looked like to visitors. Now, with Headway 1.5, you do all your design editing right on your site without having to go into your WordPress backend.

Watch me make a website :-)

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be publishing screen cast vidoes of me using Headway 1.5 for a website I’m building. I could put all the vidoes in one post, but I don’t think you’d have the patience to watch them all. Plus, I’m still tweaking how the mapping will function.

In this first video, I construct my homepage from scratch only using the Headway visual editor. You’ll see:

  • How to upload a header image with Headway
  • How easy it is to add a custom footer
  • How to add and re-size content sections (otherwise known as “leafs”).

Thanks John, I have been deciding between Squeeze Theme and Headway. You think headway is a sure winner over Squeeze Theme?
  • I'm not familiar with the Squeeze Theme. I do know that Headway is one of the most flexible themes I've worked with.

    do you have a ph#?
  • Yup - listed on my About Page
  • Wow - I really like this. I will definitely be checking out Headway Themes. I've been thinking about getting a new theme for my WP blog lately, and I'm thinking this may be a good candidate. Even though I have worked as a developer, I prefer not to have to deal with the php/css on my blog, so this sounds like a great tool!
  • Jen - it's a great theme. I used Thesis for over a year (another great theme), but found that I was spending way too much time coding CSS to make it more flexible.
