Can SEO Be Simplified With A WordPress Plugin?

Fotolia 2245394 XS Can SEO Be Simplified With A WordPress Plugin? If you’re using a blog to promote your nonprofit (or small business), a large part of your strategy is getting found on Google – otherwise known as search engine optimization (SEO).

SEO is the practice of improving the traffic to a website from your website’s organic results on Google. If you don’t quite understand the value of SEO for your nonprofit, ask yourself the following question:

How would sending people to our website precisely when they’re interested in our cause, impact our online fundraising?”

Simply stated, SEO is about getting more high-quality leads with your blog.

What is WordPress SEO?

The problem is that most nonprofits know very little about WordPress SEO. What are title tags? What is a meta description? And how important is the prevalence of keywords, anyhow?

On top of this, blogging is only 1% of your job. You also manage your Facebook Page, organize events, write the email newsletter, and explain what Twitter is to board members.

CopyBlogger SEO

Last month, Brian Clark (@CopyBlogger) announced the Scribe WordPress SEO plugin (yes, that is an affiliate link). I purchased the plugin as soon as it was announced for four reasons:

  1. I write 12-20 blog posts a month.
  2. About 30% of my clients find me through search. Getting higher rankings on Google means more business.
  3. My time is extremely valuable. Amen, if SEO can be streamlined.
  4. Brian Clark is a leading authority on SEO copywriting and publishes CopyBlogger. In short, smart cookie.

The Scribe SEO WordPress plugin is not free, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re only writing 2-3 posts a month or have SEO expertise. I also wouldn’t recommend it if your primary goals for blogging do not include ranking higher in Google searches.

If you are interested in Scribe, I’ve included a few screen shots of how I used it for this blog post.

Thanks for yet another first-rate article. I am always searching for super WordPress tips to recommend to my own readers. Thank you for making this article. It's exactly what I was searching for. Truly terrific post.
  • Thanks Carol. Are you using the Scribe plugin?
  • Anytime, Carol.

Just noticed a rip-off version has been launched by Daniel Tan: SEOpressor plugin - very similar but without the exorbitant monthly fee of Brian's Scribe. Here's what I suggest - use one or the other then write the worst SEO optimized post imaginable - click on the 'recommendations' link (or whatever, it varies between the two).

Next copy and paste those recommendations in to a text document, turn it into VERY large Bullet points and sellotape that list above your desk next to the picture of the girl tennis player scratching her butt.

Next time you write a post check the list in case you didn't action something in your post. Why pay bucks for that info? Crazy!

If you run a blog, then you shall know it takes time to interlink to previous posts. This plugin will simplify your search and also increases your resources to include images, maps and videos. One can concentrate on writing and not on searching.

  • We've also totally simplified the admin interface ... FV All in One SEO Pack. If you really want keywords
  • I am VERY tempted to get this John but being a numbers guy I would definitely like to see stats: before/after on SERP's and Analytic's. I think that would help push it more.
  • I felt the same way and did some numbers myself. Three months of trying this at the introductory price would be 81 dollars( 27 times 3 months). Finding out it works later then paying 97 A month when I could be paying 27 and have an advanced account. Well I took a chance.
  • Jeff. Great point (and great math). To me, the plugin is a no brainer
    - mainly because I blog as much as I do. The plugin creates an
automatic check on SEO best practices for posts and pages.

I'm going through old posts and pages and measuring a before and after
anyhow - just because it will be useful for folks like Nathan.
  • I'm sure Brian will have before/after very soon.
