How to take a break from Facebook and Twitter

Today is the first day of a well-earned vacation on Nantucket.

I’ll be back on Monday, refreshed and ready to rip it up on Facebook, Twitter and this blog.

You need a break too every now and then – right?

But if you’re like me, you find it hard to shut down the laptop and leave your iPhone on the kitchen counter. You and I are desperately (but needlessly) tethered to our (de)vices – but we need to take a break. After all, we’re only animals.

So how do you just up and leave Twitter, Facebook and WordPress?

The way I’ll be doing it is with a “gone fishing” sign:

On vacation – Won’t be on Facebook, Twitter or responding to blog comments. If there’s an emergency, you have my cell. Take care! icon smile How to take a break from Facebook and Twitter

I’ll miss you guys!

Ummm, John, I believe what you're doing is called a “long weekend”. We need to work on that “vacation” concept. :) Nonetheless, it is great to unplug. And feel un-guilty about it. I hope you have a wonderful time. You certainly deserve it. And here's an auto-reply I received a week ago that is so awesome I have to share it:
“I'm driving the back roads of XXXXX until August 30th.
I'll be checking email here n' there. If this is urgent…well…it rarely is.”
Enjoy Nantucket! Will you be bringing limericks back? :)

Ditto, if you know when you're coming back, it's not a vacation.

A couple of weeks ago I went camping for a few days with my family and totally disconnected – no email, facebook, twitter. Even the mobile phone was switched off. It felt really liberating and I must admit I enjoyed it totally. So much so that onc eI get back I have upped my disconnect levels back home and have a new disconnect policy for my home business. Hope you enjoyed your disconnect.

We rented a beach house with NO WIFI! Didn't touch any of this stuff for a week! It was actually nice.
