You already know everything you need to know

Fotolia 529809 XS You already know everything you need to knowBelieve it or not, you know more than enough to be dangerous on Facebook and Twitter.

Why do I say this?

  • Well, I’m going to make a few grand assumptions about you for a moment:
  • You already know how to make friends offline – you’ve been doing it since nursery school.
  • You already know how to say thank you – and mean it.
  • You know how to identify who needs help.
  • You know how to admit when you’re wrong.
  • You know how to have fun.

The only thing that social media adds to what you already know is a big fat volume knob.

John, I was preparing a social media workshop a couple weeks ago and in the process I said to my wife, “This seems a bit silly.”

What it all boils down to is, “Can you be human? Good. You know social media. Thank you and good night!”

As you say, most people really do know everything they need to know already.

    Thanks for the post.

David thanks! I think folks focus too much on the tech, and not enough on people. The other thing is that if you don't have a working knowledge of the tech, you might unknowingly do something that comes across as lacking people skills.

And you already know not to say things in public that would embarrass your Mother! Nice post.

John that's impressive man, maybe some people thought this article was going to be some type of brain surgery hand book..but I see it just laid out some common sense facts.

I love this — I tell people I could do social media workshops in 4 words. Be Nice To People.
